The leaves are symbolic to Charak plant. The idol was a big deviation from the Durga we are used to see. I am not a big fan such drastic imagination. I think it kinds of dilutes the overall central attraction of the festival which is Durga!
Entrance to the pandal. Since Shiv is the core subject of Charak puja he takes the epicentre of the pandal.
The ambience of a bengal village was created with images of paddy, rural homes and flowing river with fishes.
Charak plant and offering of " anno "
There lies the ecstatic sanyasi who is revolving in air around the charak plant while the villagers are looking on!
Villagers going to offer their prayers to Shiv
Women in the village are busy with their Nil puja
Observe how the sanyasis are first struck with a bow and then hanged around the charak plant post which they offer their prayers while revolving around the tree. Apparently this painful offering of prayer would assure them a place in heaven! India s
